NFL Season On!
Finally, I was starting to wonder if the NFL would ever be the same. It still might not be, but there is enough time for some normalcy to return. I have to admit I'm less excited than I was the same time last year. Going all summer with no news other than "NFL Lockout, who gets the billion dollar pie, two a days" disconnected me. Ok, I feel better, let's move on.
Free agency is the big topic this week. Less than two weeks before the first preseason free agency has just begun. Since my World revolves around the Titans let's start in Tennessee. Kerry Collins has retired. The franchise held their word and released Vince Young, rebounding with Matt Hasselback, with rookie Jake Locker backing him up.
Notable free agent casualties are Jason Babin and Tony Brown, potentials are David Thornton, Justin Gage, Donnie Nicky, and Jacob Ford.
And of course Chris Johnson is holding out. You may remember he held out last year for more money. The two sides agreed to mortgage his 2011 salary by shifting it to 2010, here we are in 2011 and no one should be surprised CJ isn't interested in returning without a new contract.
How much better will the Titans be this year? Improving on last year's 6-10 record is certainly expected. Keep in mind the Titans lost 8 or their last 9 games due to break downs on defense, injuries, and a sputtering offense. This year I think Kenny Britt is the key to the offense. If he stays healthy, the Titans could be thinking playoffs as the season winds down.
